QUESTION:
The prop is distorted, I hear no sounds, the pilot's head is in the way.
ANSWER:
These symptoms are indications that the plugin is not loading. You can confirm this by going to X-Plane's "Plugins>Plugin Admin" menu. If the plugin is loaded correctly, you'll either see a "SASL" or the name of the plane in the plugin window. If not, your plugin is not loading.
The SASL plugin requires "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables" in order to run, which don't always come with Windows anymore. You can download and install them by following this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2977003
Other reasons for plugin malfunction are: conflicts with other plugins (such as Gizmo), and inadvertent deletion/movement of plugin files. Occasionally, users have reported incomplete downloads, also leading to plugin malfunction.
Another common reason for plugins not to load properly is, if the aircraft's folder has been renamed. Long folder names actually cause plugins to fail to load on some operating systems. If you have renamed the folder of the plane you're trying to use, please try shortening the name, and eliminating any symbols that are not letters or numbers.

I thought the Skymaster 337 was 64 bit? I'm getting this behavior now that I'm running the Final 64-bit that downloaded this morning. What about the new A36?
Skymaster is X-Plane 10 compliant, but not 64-bit. It won't be launched for 64-bit until X-Plane 10.21 comes out, as Laminar needs to fix some lighting issues.
Thanks. But from reading the specs, it looks like the A36 is good for 64-bit, right?
"XPlane 9.6/9.7 or XPlane 10.11 (or higher - 64 bit compatible)"
Looks like I'll be parting with $26 today :)
The A36 is Carenado's first 64-bit compliant plane.
My wife is going to wonder who "Carenado" is when she begins to see all these credit card statements.
Looking forward to what lies ahead. Thanks.
Hi, I've noticed some visual artifacts similar to those listed in this knowledge base, namely the distorted prop and the exterior model with missing livery. Both of them disappear if I disable the HDR rendering mode. I experienced this problem with both the Piper Saratoga and the A36 Bonanza. The Bonanza also seems to suffer from another visual glitch, that is the missing sky in the Aspen EFIS; this issue also disappears when HDR is turned off.
I don't know if this is something that happens to me only, or if it is a known issue with HDR. I didn't find anything about this in the knowledge base.
I'm having this same issue but seemingly in the opposite circumstance. I'm flying the C152 (latest v 2.1) in 32-bit X-Plane on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC, and the Pilot's head is in the way as described here. Following this thread, I confirmed the plugin is not loading. When I run 64-bit X-Plane on the same PC, it loads up fine. However, I would prefer to run in 32-bit for recording reasons, and I can't get the plugin to load at all. I have tried downloading from scratch, deleting the files in the Airplane folder, and putting fresh copies in. I'm not sure if I should be making a new thread or not, but I figured I would try here first since the symptoms are the same. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
What you're describing will require some deeper probing. You haven't renamed the plane's folder? What version of X-Plane are you using? Have you tried temporarily emptying out all the plugins in your master plugins folder? (X-Plane 10>Resources>Plugins)
It might be conflicting with other plugins that are 32-bit compatible, sitting in the master plugin directory, which cannot conflict in 64-bit because they don't load under 64-bit.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm using X-Plane 10.21, and I haven't renamed the plane's folder. I had not tried getting rid of other plugins, but I just temporarily moved all files with an extension of .xpl out of that folder X-Plane 10>Resources>Plugins without success. When running 32-bit X-Plane, I do not see any plugins running; in 64-bit, I see the SASL plugin and I do not have the issue.
I'd be happy to provide any other info that might help with troubleshooting. Should I try removing all files of all types from X-Plane 10>Resources>Plugins?
Any further analysis would have to be done with your "log.txt" attached, for diagnostic purposes. You could try to download the latest demo of X-Plane and install it somewhere else on your computer (i.e. not overwrite your current installation), and then try loading the plane there in 32-bit. If it loads there, we'll know that it's neither Carenado's problem nor X-Plane's problem. Then you go taking note of differences between the two X-PLane installations. You start populating the fresh demo version's "Resources>Plugins" folder with the items found in your full installation of X-Plane, and start adding whatever add-ons you love using, until you find that the plane no longer loads properly, and you've found the culprit.
This, however, is not an error I was able to reproduce. The 32-bit version of the plugin works just fine on my end. What version of X-Plane are you running?
Thanks for the guidance; here are the results. I have tried with a separate installation of the demo of X-Plane, and the same thing happens. This is a fresh demo install with nothing added, not even any plugins, except I added the airplane folder for the C152. I have attached the log file. It says it can't find the plugin file, but I have confirmed the file is there in exactly that folder path where it's looking. The same error (with a different path as appropriate to the non-demo installation) happens in the full X-Plane installation. I'm using the latest X-Plane 10.21.
C:\Test/X-Plane 10 Demo/Aircraft/General Aviation/Carenado C152II v2.1/plugins/sasl/win.xpl : Error Code = 126 : The specified module could not be found.
I don't get why it's saying the module can't be found, because the file is right there, and it loads in the 64-bit X-Plane fine (only difference there is the end of the path is ...\sasl\64\win.xpl).
